Please note: Based on community spread, it is recommended that everyone continue to wear masks when around other people regardless of exposure or illness.

This guidance is intended for the general public. There may be additional recommendations and guidance for specific settings, such as healthcare, congregate living, schools, or travel. For setting-specific guidance, please see the CDC website for more information.

If you test positive for COVID-19, there is a significant risk you could pass the disease to others. To prevent the spread of this virus to others and protect the health of the public, you must isolate immediately

ISOLATION means that you MUST:

1. Remain at your current residence at all times until your advised isolation period ends (see below),

2. Have no contact with anyone outside of your residence and only absolutely necessary contact with those you live with,

3. Not have anyone who is not part of your household enter your home, with the exception of law enforcement and emergency responders. Be sure to let them know you are on isolation for COVID-19 before they enter your home, and

4. Have everyone you live with follow quarantine guidelines immediately and not go to school or work until they have completed their quarantine.

DURATION OF ISOLATION:

You should isolate until you meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • It has been at least 5 days since your symptoms started (or since your test date if you never had symptoms) AND you are able to adhere to strict mask-wearing for an additional 5 days
  • If you are not able to wear a mask, it has been at least 10 days since your symptoms started (or since your test date if you never had symptoms)
  • You have been symptom-free for 24 hours or have seen great improvement in your symptoms
  • You have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without taking any fever-reducing medications (i.e aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc.)

Please continue to follow the requirements of your employer or school for isolation and return to work or school.
