People of all ages enjoy swimming and playing in the water. With recreation, however, comes the risks of illness and injury to patrons when safety laws are not being followed.

Ingestion of contaminated water, exposure to high levels of chemicals and falls can turn a fun day at the pool into a hospital trip! Regulation of facilities and education of pool operators can reduce or eliminate the spread of disease and the risk of injury to the public.

The Rock County Public Health Department licenses and inspects 66 swimming facilities, to ensure Wisconsin state standards are met.

  • Public pools and whirlpools are inspected at least annually.
  • Outdoor pools have chemical checks monthly during their operating season.
  • Consumer complaints are investigated within 2 business days.
  • Operators with code violations receive follow-up inspections to ensure conditions, which may cause illness or injuries, are corrected.
